THE CCN FAMILY OF GENES
Workshop Overview
The CCN proteins constitute a new emerging family of regulators involved in fundamental biological processes such as cell adhesion, migration and proliferation, angiogenesis, development.
Their interaction with several cell receptors, matrix proteins and membrane bound proteoglycans, and their ability to modulate intra cellular calcium concentration, is indicative of their role in signaling and cellular communication. Altered expression of CCN proteins in pathological conditions is well established and constitute a marker for typing, early diagnosis and prognosis in cancer. The increased expression of some CCN proteins in fibrotic situations also opens key prospective avenue for molecular medicine.
Workshop Audience
In organizing the Workshop on the CCN family of genes, the International CCN Society invites research teams who are leaders in this new field to meet on a regular basis, discuss future prospects and set the
stage for new collaborative networks. As for the two previous meetings, the proposed format of this workshop is intended to provide educational opportunities for all the attendees who will be able to exchange ideas, material, and views on this expanding field. The meeting is also intended to allow young researchers to come into close contact with both their colleagues and senior scientists in the CCN field.
Workshop Format
The Board members of the International CCN Society who constitute the organizing committee, belong to well established Institutions and provide expertise in major fields of cell biology and cancerology.
All speakers are given the opportunity to present a 20 minutes oral talk. Poster sessions are also organized to provide the means for short or preliminary communications. The attendence is limited to about one hundred participants.
The proceedings and a scientific report of previous workshops have been published in peer reviewed journals shortly after the meeting.
